Keyt stands out from other toys with its simple yet captivating design. Unlike traditional locks and keys, Keyt requires a specific set of steps to place the key inside the lock. Instead of simply pushing or pulling, all the teeth of the key must pass through the rings inside the lock. This can be achieved by rotating the key and the rings, coordinating their movements. The rings inside the lock are free and rotate easily, adding an element of challenge and creativity to the toy. The same procedure must be followed when removing the key from the lock, making the experience even more engaging.
The realization of Keyt is made possible through injection molding using high-density polyethylene (HDPE). This manufacturing technique ensures durability and precision in the final product. The dimensions of the entire Keyt collection are 5cm x 5cm x 11cm, making it compact and portable for children to enjoy anywhere.
Keyt offers a range of benefits for children's development. By attempting to pass the key through the rings by turning them, children improve their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. The activity can be performed on both sides of the body, allowing for bilateral coordination. Additionally, the process of placing the key inside the lock can be turned into a competitive game, challenging children to complete the task within a specified time. This not only enhances excitement but also fosters a sense of teamwork and healthy competition.
The design of Keyt was meticulously researched and tested to ensure optimal functionality and engagement. The goal was to create a toy that not only entertains children but also encourages a collective and competitive environment. Initial prototypes helped identify potential flaws, leading to improvements such as restraining the rings inside the lock by changing the shape of the surrounding bars. The teeth of the key were designed to be identical, challenging children to rotate them strategically to pass through the rings.
One of the key design challenges was finding the best way to engage children in the process of placing the key inside the lock. By overcoming this challenge, Keyt offers a unique and rewarding experience that stimulates problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
